Forgotten Man Graphic Novel – Page 65
I’ve been working on a large project, drawing the art for the graphic novel adaptation of Amity Shlaes’ New York Times bestselling book, “The Forgotten Man: A New History of the Great Depression”. The book is a wide-ranging re-examination of the Great Depression/New Deal era. It has a large cast of characters, and here we see President Herbert Hoover & assistant getting ready to play–Hoover Ball! (he really did invent this game)
(A note: this page is a slapstick/comedic one; many of the others are more serious…please stay tuned for more updates as work progresses)

Holy shark rockets. Your art is awesome. I’ve spent way too much time looking at all your stuff but just wanted to say how great it all is. Especially your backgrounds (which I struggle with immensely).
I found your site from a google search for art exercises (i’ve been using posemaniacs and was getting bored) and found your scientificartist, which lead me to another of your expired blogs, which lead me here.
Awesome stuff!
Cheers!
Hi Rubin. Thanks for leaving such a nice comment! I am truly glad that my artwork affected you. best, Paul
Interesting. I had no idea that book was being adapted as a graphic novel. How long is the expected finished product?
And of course, love the art!
Fantastic! It feels really 40s!
I recently read one of your interviews in a 2002 issue of Draw! where you discuss how to internalize things you see in the world and bring them into your work.
I have to tell you, you really inspired me to start working on a whole new set of illustrations – thanks, man!

Thanks a lot Veronica! (belatedly!)
