Duck Dodgers: The Fins of War

A few years back, I was asked to design and board an episode of “Duck Dodgers”. Although I often get more “realistic” or ‘action-adventure’ style assignments when it comes to animation work, this one came to me, it seems, because they wanted a pseudo-Jack-Kirby feel to the episode, and I’d worked in that style on earlier WB programs. I was delighted to do it, and it was a fun challenge to work on. Some of the BGs came from Ted Blackman’s sketches, supplied to me, and some I worked out as the board came together. In the actual episode, there are lots of adjustments to the board I did, as is inevitable in the animation game, but the gist of what I boarded is there. In a later post I’ll put up some board pages, but for now here are a few of my design drawings (again some like, I believe the latter one if memory serves, was based on a drawing by Ted), and here’s a link to the episode itself.
